Today was my big girl's 6th birthday. 6?! I'm not sure where the time goes, but it makes me happy and sad all at the same time. I know all of you with little ones (or big ones) can relate. I still remember the exact moment I first saw her sweet face, all scrunched up looking at me. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. I love all three of my children equally and with every bit of my heart, but my big girl changed my life in a way I can't explain (but know many of you understand) the minute she was born. She was so much more than I could have ever imagined she would be as I had daydreamed that 42 weeks (yes a full 42 weeks and 1 day). She was by far my longest labour, a labour that dragged on for days. When she was born I had been awake for over 72 hrs, as in my excitement I had been unable to sleep once even the smallest contractions started. I was barely functioning on lack of sleep, probably delirious, yet could not close my eyes and take them off of her. I'm not sure what type of adrenaline must have been running though my body, but it was good. Memories of her that I will keep with me forever. *sniff*
Ok, now that I've gotten that out...let's eat some cake! Well, we had cake and I would have shared some if I could have.
My girl is all about being a rockstar at the moment. I didn't think the princess faze would ever end. It finally did. Princess dresses and tiaras have been replaced with her trying to get out of the house wearing glitter on her cheeks to school, and holding daily rock concerts in the living room. So of course we needed a rockstar cake! Thank goodness for Betty Crocker! This is the cake I made this morning. Pretty cute, huh? Well, it is cute until you see the cake in the tutorial I followed. I think once you see that one you will just give my cake a polite smile.
Check out Bettycrocker.com and there is a video tutorial on how to make this cake as well as so many other cute ones. This site has been my cake resource for the past couple of years. Very good step by step instructions.
Now, for the sewing...
My princess, er... I mean rockstar in her new birthday outfit. Sorry guys, no sewing tutorials today, I used patterns. The flare jeans were made using Modkid's Sophie pattern. You can check out the designer, Patty Young's website HERE
I made the top using the Portrait Peasant Top pattern by designer Carla C. It is a PDF pattern that can be downloaded instantly and purchased from youcanmakethis.com, click HERE.
I did do some modifications to the pattern by adding the shirring on the front (and added it to the back too).
Notice the similar pose between pictures? This is how rockstars pose, didn't yah know?
I hope you all had wonderful Good Friday's with your families. :)

Happy Birthday! I can absolutely see the rockstar quality there. Hope you had a wonderful day together!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your DD. I love her clothes....
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! Your daughter is very beautiful you must be proud of her. And LOVE the fabric combo! I've never seen that guitar print, which fabric is that? So cute!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! Your daughter sure looks cool in her new outfit :) Also loving the cake of course, it looks so yummy! Hope you both had a great day with lots of fun and friends :)
ReplyDeleteWarm regards from London, UK!
Thank you! Zura, it is a Robert Kaufman fabric. I can't remember the name of the line but if you search for Robert Kaufman guitars on Etsy something should come up! I love it too, but only bought a remnant (it was only 18 inches) was able to squeeze, the front/back of the top out of it. I want to buy more in another colourway.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your beautiful daughter! I love the cake, and her outfit! Hope you all had a fantastic day!

What an adorable outfit, and great job on the cake! Rock on!
ReplyDeleteCute outfit! I have that fabric too. My daughter picked it out to have me make pillow for her out of it, but have plenty left to make her a top out of it. I love the pink and white dot print with it! And the guitar cake - awesome!
ReplyDeleteMy son (also 6) does the has the identical rock star pose. except he doesn't smile, cause he is a tortured rock star.
