Easy Edible Chocolate Bowls

Last Sunday THIS came up in my blogger dashboard. Mmmmm.... Bakerella always makes the best treats! I immediately thought my kids would love them!

Today my big girl had the day off school, and for some reason whenever the kids and I have a day all together where nobody has to go anywhere, we make treats. It's becoming a tradition.

If you check out Bakerella's site, she used water balloons dipped in chocolate to make her nice round bowls. I didn't have any water balloons and didn't feel like looking all over town for some, so we improvised. When I make these again I think I will continue to do it this way, I don't think I would even be able to blow a water balloon up with air!

What you will need:
-Chocolate
- Small plastic containers
- Plastic wrap (we used press and seal)

You want to start by lining the inside of your containers with plastic wrap. We used Press & Seal as that was all I had on hand and put the clingier side touching the plastic.

Melt your chocolate and pour a small amount inside your container. Hard to tell from photos but we used the teeny tiny plastic snack containers you can buy for really small snacks. I used about a tablespoon of chocolate, maybe a tad more. Turn the container sideways so the chocolate runs around the sides. Make sure the entire bottom and sides are covered and there are no holes in the chocolate. Put in the fridge for about 10 mins.

Gently pull the wrap from the container and peel the plastic wrap from your chocolate. If using Press & Seal like we did, it will stick pretty well to your container so just be sure to go slow and be gentle! I actually like the texture the wrap gave to our bowls.

Fill em with dessert of your choice! This looks like a whole lotta dessert, but because we used tiny containers it only took about a heaping tablespoon of pudding and a squirt of whipped topping to fill them.

I think these would be perfect to hold soft serve ice cream, or even as candy bowls for a party. You could really make them any size! Mmmmmm......

  1. I love the look the plastic wrap gave the bowls. I think they look better than Bakerella's bowls...plus I was worried about the stray balloon piece getting stuck in the chocolate. Great idea.

  4. This is a wonderful and creative idea! I have seen bowl that are painted on the outside of a bowl with chocolate, but not on the inside. Wow! This is wonderful and easy!
The next time I have some girls for lunch, I'm making these.

  8. Unfortunatey, this didn't work for me. The plastic wrap fell around the sides when I tried to coat the oposite side. Maybe it was the press and seal that prevented it from happening to yours, or maybe it was just a mistake I made.
But even though it didn't work for me, I DID line a little square baking dish with parchment paper and that worked. So, thank you so much for the idea. :)

  9. I tried with balloons and all it did was break, so... maybe this will finally work. If so, I'll have a great new way to serve cakepops at my next party, in a couple of days! :)
