I had the opportunity to make a few flowers using Snazzie Drawers' Starlet La Fleur Pattern. I apologize in advance for the bad photos, the batteries in my camera died in the middle of taking pictures and I can't run out and grab more at the moment! You know how it is, need to pick up one child in a few minutes, up to my ears in laundry, have one kiddo still in PJs (although he has already been out once this morning like this).... :)
Not to change the subject, but do you remember before you had children? Do you remember ever being in a grocery store or out somewhere, seeing children dressed funny? You know, those little girls wearing princess dresses and gumboots with bed head, or that little boy with shoes on the wrong feet and his shirt on inside out? I always wondered why their parents would take their kids out like that. Even when we had one child, and I dressed her up even for a simple trip to get milk. Well, now with 3 small kids, I understand. Now, sadly, I am that mom sometimes!
Back to the subject at hand. I had planned to make some silk flowers, but being in the middle of nowhere, could not find any silk. I bought some online but sadly don't have it yet. What you will be happy to know though, is that although most of the photos of this flower are in silk, the pattern works great with other fabrics as well!
Here I just used a plain white interlock and it worked really well. I think a knit fabric makes these terrific for casual outfits. We put a little pin on the back of this one and attached it to a headband. She has also worn it attached to her dress and my other daughter has another one which she has attached to a little purse. Very cute girly embellishment that can be used in so many ways!
My little girl wore this out to dinner last night and was getting compliments from everyone.
Want to know something else? You don't have to machine stitch these, you can make them just by handstitching as well (which is what I did).
I think they would dress up a throw pillow really pretty for Mother's Day. They would also be perfect to embellish a Scrappy Clutch, don't you think? They would also be really cute made smaller and attached to a top, really the possibilities are endless. Gotta love patterns like that!
If you haven't entered the Snazzie Drawers Giveaway, enter now, you don't want to miss it! You have until 7pm PST Sunday May 9th to enter! This is going to be such a wonderful Mother's Day present for someone!
