Sew-A-Long Day 3
As it happens, you can find the tutorial for this already on the blog. See the Twirly T shirt Dress tutorial. Now, because we are not starting with a store bought T, you will want to make the Lil Blue Boo hoodie, but make it short. I made my top end 2 inches below the underarm seams. Don't add the hood! Well, you could add the hood but I think it looks better without. See Tuesdays sew-a-long post about omitting the hood. I also made my ruffles 1.75 times the previous one, not 1.5 as in the tute. I would have gone 2 times but I didn't have it in me!
Also, you want the top of the dress to be fairly snug fitting so make the top 1 or 2 sizes smaller. I forgot to do this.
Now, add your photos to the sew-a-long flickr group! The photos in there are getting lonely! :)
Edited to add: I will get some more questions tomorrow! Having a crazy day!
I do want to quickly address Amanada's question about having issues with the 3 step stitch. My machine will eat my knits as well if I start with this stitch right away. I have to start this stitch about 1 inch in and then it works just fine.
If you are still having issues I would try a zig zag stitch. You will want to make it tiny so your seams still looks straight after sewing. If you have issues with that you can use a straight stitch. I have used a regular straight stitch. Just keep in mind if your shirt has a lot of stretch to it and it is pulled the seams could break. That said I have used a straight stitch when in a hurry and have never had seams break. Not recommended for knits. I like to break the rules though.
