Warm Hooded Vest Pattern Test

I mentioned in my last post that I just finished testing a new pattern for Karen of Dear My Kids.

This is her Warm Hooded Vest. Meant to be lined with something warm, offset closure with a sweet little tie, and gathered pocket. Cute, right? This project was actually really fun for me and turned a bit of a sewing disaster into something good. My vest is made out of beautiful Sandi Henderson corduroy lined with microfleece.

I purchased this corduroy about a year ago and promptly cut out a project only to realize that I traced and cut out the wrong size. What I was making was going to be too small. :( It was a sad day and I threw the fabric in my scrap bin. Every time I see it I get down on myself for the mistake. I LOVE this fabric!

Well, when I got the tester pattern from Karen I thought I would just see if I could squeak it out of my miscut pieces, and it worked!

I did have to break up the back piece though as I didn't have enough of one fabric to quite make it!

See the little tie a little closer...
Very sweet and very cute, but after trying this on my little girl I started thinking. She will most likely wear this at school, indoors. We have cold winters and there is no chance this will be warm enough to wear outside. I used thin microfleece for the inside so it would be thin enough to wear indoors. Although I love the tie, it may become annoying to her if it comes undone when I'm not around.

So I decided to switch it with a covered button.

Great pattern! I just wish I had enough of this cord to make a matching skirt! :)

If you love it too, Karen should have it listed in her Etsy shop by next week.
