Scarves

I've spent the last couple of evenings crocheting a couple of scarves for my sister in laws.
Isn't there just something so cozy about a nice stack of knitted (crocheted) somethings?

I'm late to the Ravelry train, but if you like to knit or crochet you should join! Thousands of free patterns to download. So fun to browse around.

The two scarves I made I found there. If you have never crocheted a day in your life you could easily make one today, you only need to know two stitches. These were a perfect mindless project. No need to count stitches after the initial base chain, yet I still felt like I was being semi productive as I parked my butt on the couch!

I used a variegated worsted weight yarn for one (kinda fun to see what type of color pattern will unfold), and a worsted weight recycled yarn for the other.

So what do you think? Should I add tassles, or not?

When I have the time to start it, I would love for this to be one of my next crochet projects.

I've started many blankets but never finished a one. I find them so boring to make. I'm an instant gratification type of person. I love the look of this one, so may need to test my patience. Maybe after Christmas. :)

Have any of you knit or crocheted any Christmas gifts this year for loved ones?

If you are looking for a pattern and can't find what you're looking for on Raverly. La Boutique Josefina has their sale going until the end of December. Enter "happiness" at checkout to receive 25% off. I still have one of Gabriela's cowl's on my agenda. I'm actually going to make that one for myself. I need to go shopping for yarn as that is what the gray yarn was supposed to be for! :)

  2. I crochet scarves and hats every year for the holidays, but this year I decided to crochet socks instead. What is better than handmade, cozy socks?? Nothing, that's what.

I found a crochet book from the 70's at a local book fair and it has a "slipper sock" pattern that I've been using. Now I have no reason to learn to knit! :)

  3. Wow, you're fantastic. I've tried knitting/crocheting, and yeah, it takes too long. Sewing is so much quicker, I can't wrap my mind around that much time. Though, I'm sure it would make me feel better about watching the little bit of TV I actually watch, but then I wouldn't concentrate enough on the knitting, and it would come out bad... But really, I am amazed by your awesome talent!

  6. Great evening project! I have to have something crochet to work on in front of the TV after our 5 are in bed at night. I've made really creative hats for my kids and cousins this year, and a sweater for the new baby. I'm about to start a crocheted purse key fob for my sister (she LOVES purses) and then hopefully some quick Christmas slippers for the household to go with the jammies my mom is making the kids for Christmas.

  7. Your scarves look great! I just took my first crochet class last Friday. I'm not going to lie, for the first hour I thought that I was going to throw the hook and yarn across the room and walk out. Then it finally clicked and I'm almost done with a blanket!

  8. I always have something to work on in my purse, great for even only a 5 minute wait someplace! Here's a tip someone taught me a few years ago. If you use a less expensive yarn that isn't quite as soft as you'd like, after you've made your project, wash it in the machine but add some hair conditioner to it! It works like a charm. I recently made a scarf and washed it with maybe 1/6th of a cup of suave coconut conditioner. Added bonus to the softness is the scarf smells wonderful!

  9. I've been crocheting as fast as I can. Just learned this year, and made a too-ambitious (as always) gift list. Have made cowls, hats, earrings, one of three capes...lots to go!
